They are the must have for the garden this year – but instead of buying a pizza oven we built our own from scratch.

Inspired by Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s, River Cottage design, we rolled our sleeves up and practised our brickwork, plastering and tiling to produce our very own Gaudiesque wood-fired oven, complete with cold smoker.

Throughout the summer, we’ve been entertaining friends, family and guests at our create-your-own pizza nights, usually accompanied by copious quantities of red wine!

We hope to be able to use the oven over the autumn and winter – so watch out for any special events.

Not only have we cooked pizza, but we’ve also roasted sides of pork for Sunday lunch and can now smoke our home-cured bacon.

We’re now looking for our next project – any suggestions? Perhaps a mini oast house to dry our hops.
