Old Cider House Food

At the Old Cider House we pride ourselves on our food. We know that our guests are discerning and demand good quality, home made meals at a reasonable price. We are not chefs - just like cooking meals for friends. We have a set menu with vegetarian alternative. Please let us know of any particular likes or dislikes on booking.

We use, wherever possible, local and organic produce - some from our garden. Our eggs come from our own chickens, or local free-range suppliers. Our meat from the village butcher – Fauns and other local farm suppliers. Dairy produce from our local dairy and Yeo Valley organic creamery. We bake our own bread, make our own jam, marmalade and chutneys and even brew our own beer.

We are a small establishment and booking in advance is essential.

Thank you.

We offer a number of menus throughout the week:

Sunday - Thursday: Simple suppers, usually a hearty casserole served with a hunk of homemade country style bread and pudding together with a glass of wine or beer. (£15.00). Supper served at 7.30pm.

Fridays: More of an international evening with recipes from around the World. We like cooking Spanish, Italian and Indian.(£20.00). Theme details usually available from midwek.

Saturdays: We like to serve something a little more special on a Saturday night. Depending on numbers and demand we run themed evenings. These consist of a welcome drink, dinner and usually a fun quiz. We usually e-mail over a menu for any special meals and will discuss on booking. (£25.00) Please note that if there is insufficient demand then an alternative will be provided.

Breakfasts are leisurely affairs with Old English sausages and bacon from our local butcher, eggs from our chickens, specials as the mood takes us and occasionally a bowl of ‘furmity’ – a Wessex creation with oats, sugar, rum, raisins and cream.
