Stowey Brewery

The smallest real ale  microbrewery in the heart of the Quantock Hills.

Started in Spring 2006 our half barrel plant produces a couple of firkins a month to supply the Old Cider House and the village pubs on an occasional basis ( Ancient Mariner & Rose & Crown).
If the pubs do not have our beer on when you visit - tell them to have a word with us for more supplies!

BREWERY COURSES:

We now have a dedicated site for our Real Ale Walk and Brewery Courses at www.4ale.co.uk. This contains details of all our breaks and prices etc.

This is a fantastic opportunity to become a brewer for the weekend and run your own microbrewery. Imagine the fun of making a unique craft real ale; from boiling the water first thing in the morning to adding the yeast at the end of the day.

Not only will you get hands-on experience of beer brewing but these courses include tutored beer tastings and talks on brewing history and beer making. There are also fun quizzes, dinner in a local inn and the chance to really get to know the nuts and bolts about small scale brewing.

Each break is themed with a different beer (and sometimes two) produced at each session.

No prior knowledge or experience is required although the courses are detailed enough to allow those wanting to set up their own mini microbrewery to learn the basics of running a commercial brewery. Most of all, these courses are fun with plenty of free time and pub visits!

2 – 4 March – New World Wonders (a chance to not only brew but design a beer)

22 - 24 April– Diamond Jubilee Beer (to celebrate Her Majesty’s 60 years on the throne)

25 – 27 May – Grab the Nettle Beer (walking, collecting and brewing all in one course)

26 – 28 October – Christmas Double Header – brew both a strong old ale and a beer for the pubs)

A selection of our Ales

Nether Ending

Our best bitter produced throughout the year. A mid-coloured beer at 4.2%. Good malty mouthfeel with a fruity and barley sugar taste.

It's Now or Nether

Spring brew.

It Nether Rains (but it pours)

Summer brew - 4.2%. On sale in the local pubs now. A light, refreshing ale based on an American 'steam beer' recipe and made with Cascade and Mount Hood hops. Slightly hazy due to the wheat present in the beer and low fining.

Nether Fear

Autumn (Halloween) brew.

Nether Snowy

Christmas brew.

On the Nether Nether

A light, quaffing bitter flavoured with Goldings and Fuggles hops.
