Late summer in the Quantocks is just beautiful. There’s a special kind of light, often filtered through early morning or evening mists making a trip up to the tops before breakfast, or just as the sun sets, well worthwhile.

It’s at this time of year that the gorse and heather are at their best with a riot of yellow and purple flowers carpeting the moor tops. Add to that the lazy sheep, cows and Quantock ponies grazing – often standing in the middle of the road – and this is just the perfect rural ideal.
