Ever dreamed of running your own brewery?

Course Synopsis:

Guests have the opportunity to live in a working brewery
Trainee brewers see how a microbrewery works and how beer is made
Participants learn how to taste and evaluate beer
After deciding on a style and taste of the perfect pint, the ingredients are weighed, measured and prepared for the brew
On brew day the malt is mashed and hops added to the copper
The, now experienced brewers, put their head together to name the brew

The Weekend

Friday

On arrival, and after refreshments and time to freshen up, the Brewery convenes an informal board meeting to run through the itinerary for the weekend.

After learning about what the Stowey Brewery does, guests visit the brewery and bar for a whistle-stop tour and a tutored tasting of a number of different types of real ale. The group will then decide on the taste and look of the perfect ale.

A hot buffet supper is taken in the brewery bar followed by free time to relax with a pint or two at one of the local hostelries.

Saturday

A day in the brewery. The hot liquor will be ready to be added to the ingredients and the process of brewing started. Trainee brewers will measure, mix, stir, analyse and learn about the whole process of brewing. Everything will be ‘hands-on’ with plenty of opportunity to get their hands sticky.

The remainder of the morning will be spent designing the beer label/pump-clip.

Sunday

This is the first opportunity to see if fermentation is taking place. Participants then prepare bottles for bottling (at a later date) and also label up the last groups beer for delivery. Finally the group designs a label for the bottle.
