Weddings can be stressful affairs and take huge amounts of organising. This page aims to make sure your booking at The Old Cider House is as smooth as possible.
ROOMS
We have five rooms. These are all e-suite with the normal expected facilities. They are:
Castle Room – with a four poster bed and additional finishing touches such as a decanter of sherry (£80.00).
Quantock Room – this is our large twin. This can be used as a family room including a Z-bed (only suitable for young children) (£70.00 as a family room £85.00).
Poets’ Room – our standard double (£65.00).
Stowey Room – our standard twin (£60.00).
Orchard Room – a downstairs twin. This is suitable for those who have difficulty with stairs. It is also our pet friendly room (£60.00).
Single occupancy rates are £45.00 per night. For Saturday only stays, the full room rate applies.
Prices are per room & include a full English or continental breakfast.
CHECK IN
Our normal check-in time is 4.00pm. However, guests often want to check in earlier than this to get ready for the wedding. This is normally possible subject to us being able to clean the rooms in time. If guests wish to arrive earlier they will need to:
- Book a check-in time. This needs to be precise and guests are expected to leave adequate time to arrive. Guests must be aware that Saturday and Summer traffic on the M5 and through Bridgwater can be very heavy.
- Pay a supplement of £10.00 per double and £5.00 per single room.
Failure to arrive at the booked time may mean that we are not in to receive them. The supplement will be charged whether or not the guest attends.
If guests are running late they should call us ASAP.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept check-ins late in the evening.
MORNINGS & DEPARTURE
Breakfast is served at 8.30am Mon-Fri and 9.00am at weekends. Earlier breakfasts can be ordered, but we are usually unable to provide later breakfasts.
Checking out time is 10.30am and we have to insist that this time is adhered to, especially as there are often have back to back weddings and guests wanting check in early.
HOW TO BOOK
Wedding bookings usually take two forms:
Block bookings by the organiser. These need to be paid for, in full, at the time of the booking. Details of the guests using the rooms will also be required at least a week before arrival. There will be no refunds given should rooms be cancelled or not taken. Provisional bookings are not taken as there are often several weddings in the area on at the same time and rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis.
Individual bookings. These can be booked by the guests (with payment of a security deposit) as and when required. Again we will not make provisional bookings. Our normal cancellation policy will apply (see back page) and those guests also need to be aware of the information contained in this leaflet.
GENERAL
As wedding guests can be somewhat enthusiastic, they need to be made aware that Nether Stowey is a quiet village and be respectful of other guests and neighbours when arriving home late at night. We also advise guests to drink responsibly and we will make a charge of an additional night’s room rate should additional cleaning of the room be required over and above that which is normal. We are no smoking throughout.

We reiterate that traffic into the area, especially at weekends and in the summer can be very heavy. Guests, especially from London and the South-East, frequently underestimate the time required in travelling. In July 2007 one guest’s Friday afternoon/night journey from Milton Keynes took 7 hours and we saw quite a few guests miss weddings because of M5 traffic. Saturday is also holiday accommodation changeover day. Therefore, why not get guests to come a day early and beat the traffic.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Please note that due to the number of wedding guests cancelling we will enforce this policy. If you are not sure you will be able to attend put off your booking until you are sure.
1. In the event that a guest cancels at any time after booking they will forfeit their security deposit being the cost of the first night’s stay. 2. If guests cancel within 10 days of their stay or fail to turn up we reserve the right to charge you the full value of the booking. 3. For block bookings of more than two rooms we reserve the right to charge the full value of the booking on cancellation at whatever time. 4. If we can re-let a room after cancellation we will give credit for nights re-let, subject to clause No. 1 applying in all cases.
